Wineries from all over Northern California will take part in the 2006 California State Fair Wine Judging Competition this summer.  The three-day competition is expected to bring out the best of the best winemakers, whose wines will be judged by an elite group of trained judges from across the nation.  From champagne to zinfandel, judges are expected to sip and spit nearly 3,000 wines, awarding medals to this year’s best of the barrel. 

As in years’ past, many of the award-winning wines will be showcased at this year’s Grape & Gourmet, to be held July 13, 2006, at the California State Fairgrounds.  For ticket information, visit Grape & Gourmet.

Last year’s competition included an unprecedented 2,800 wine entries from more than 600 participating wineries.  Sixteen panels of four judges awarded 2,141 medals, including 80 Double Gold, 270 Gold, 808 Silver and 983 Bronze awards.
